Mexican Candy Box

I first heard of the Mexican Candy Subscription Box at another site (and would like to give them credit but I can't remember where I saw it). I was immediately intrigued because I LOVE to see and experience candies and snacks that other people have available to them. I am always truly excited to go to Epcot at Walt Disney World! I contacted Liz over at Mexican Candy Blog sent me and in November I was selected as a blogger to receive one of her monthly Mexican boxes to review. Here is some information taken over from her blog:

Each month the Candy Curators select an assortment of sweet and spicy hot candies for you to enjoy.  The candies chosen are kept secret until after the boxes are shipped, so you'll get a fun surprise each month!  You choose the flavor box, and size that is best for you.

I was surprised at this box. Look at all this neat stuff! She sent me a good size box so I got the whole family to taste it. My box was the Sweet and Spicy Box! Here is what I received:

Sweet:

Moneda: Chocolate Coin
Damy: Crunchy Toffee with Peanut
Mazapan de la Rosa: Peanut Candy
Pale-Locas: Hard Candy Lollis

Sour:

LimonCho: Lemon Lime Seasoning

Spicy:

Chipeleta: Orange Lolli with Chili Powder
Rico Pepino: Cucumber Lolli with Chili Powder
Lucas Chamoy: Sweet and Sour Chamoy Flavored Powder

I will start with the sweet as that is my favorite. I am not a big "spicy" fan of anything so I wanted to make sure that I had my husband around to try this. I also had pictures of everything however my phone crashed and so when it restarted up, some of the pictures were gone.

Moneda: Chocolate Coin -  This is my daughter Aimee trying to figure out if she is going to eat this. Then she found out it was chocolate and she was super excited! She has had chocolate coins before and she said that this was really good. Smooth and she enjoyed it. Matter of fact, I did not try that one because she ate it!

Damy: Crunchy Toffee with Peanut - This is one that I did not get a picture of however, I was able to find one on the web.
This is one of the candies that I actually got to sample 2 times! My husband does not eat peanut candy and my daughter was not feeling it so I was the lone tester. These were my favorite of them all. They are sort of a combo of the two following candy:

These had the crispness of the Peanut Butter Bar but the taste of the crumbliness of the Chick-O-Stick. All in  all, I would buy these without hesitation.

Mazapan de la Rosa: Peanut Candy - This was also an interesting candy. I have seen these at the different Mexican restaurants in this area but had never tried them.

These are extremely crunchy and are caramel and peanut candy flavored. I did like these but we also get pecan pralines made around here and these were not quite as good as what we can get locally. I do think that it is a good "after dinner" candy to cleanse the palate.

Pale-Locas: Hard Candy Lollis - We received two different ones of these. Ours were the Chocolate Rompope and I was not able to identify the other one but it looks like Tutti Frutti-Lemon. My daughter tried this one and really enjoyed the Chocolate part but not so much the Rompope (which I was not really sure that was!)

Pale-Locas are delicious hard candy lollipops. This unique candy has 2 hard candies (lollipops) on one stick, one side is molded into a square and the other is triangular, both lollipops are decorated with smiley faces. They are tasty treats that are perfect as a snack, for children's parties, pinata stuffers or for Halloween treats. Pale-Locas smell fruity and come in 4 flavors; Tutti Frutti-Lemon, Tamarind-Pineapple, Mango-Orange and Chocolate-Rompope.

Next up is Sour and we had:

LimonCho: Lemon Lime Seasoning- This was really good in our homemade guacamole! My husband and I both enjoyed this. It was sour but with the avocado it gave it a little bit of a twang.

Now we are onto Spicy:

Chipeleta: Orange Lolli with Chili Powder - My husband tried this. He originally was wary but said that he would be a winner and help with it. He said that it had a very unique taste that was "different". We both agreed that they sound "not so good" separately but together they seemed to be fine. He actually finished this lolli.

Rico Pepino: Cucumber Lolli with Chili Powder - Now this one was NOT a hit. We only received one of these but I can't stand the taste of Cucumber and neither can my husband. He did agree once again, to try it for me but he could not finish it. He said that the chili powder was fine but the cucumber taste was just not for him. I could imagine that if you like the taste of cucumber, it would not be a bad lolli to try.

Last up was Lucas Chamoy: Sweet and Sour Chamoy Flavored Powder. I had to Google what Chamoy was/is. Wikipedia stated that it is a variety of pickled fruit. I definitely could understand that after I tried it. It was listed under the spicy category but I felt that it was a little more sweeter to me than spicy. I was not sure what you eat it on so I just tried the powder out of bottle.

All in all, this was a good introduction to getting to try some different candies from Mexico. I have to say that most of the Mexican snacks are very unfamiliar to me and even though I had some that I did not like, I also had some that I very much enjoyed. If I had someone in my family that enjoys trying new things, I would definitely purchase a subscription for this box!

Thanks Liz for letting me review your box for November. If you want to receive your own box then check her site out at http://mexicancandybox.com/ .

Sorry that I am unable to get this hyperlink to work. I am still new obviously at this blogging thing! Type it in though, it still works! ;)
